B.Ed Second Year Notes English Medium
Q. Which strategy will you use to maintain discipline in an overcrowded class?
Discipline is a product of good teaching. A fine teacher maintains a friendly climate in the class and generates enthusiasm amongst his pupils. I would –
1) Plan the lesson well as per the time allotted so that too slow or too fast a pace does not create restlessness amongst the students.
2) Conduct the lesson well with sufficient motivation and participation so that as far as possible, all 5 senses are involved to completely engross them in the lesson.
3) Balance out the curriculum because curriculum and discipline are inter-related. Too much material crammed in one school year can lead to frustration. Similarly a student who does not know the relevance of what he is learning, is not ready to learn.
4) Judiciously arrange the seating arrangement to pair a hyperactive child with a well-behaved one.
5) Organize suitable activities wherein the student’s mischievous energies are directed into a more gainful task.
6) Find out the uniqueness of every student and work towards openly promoting it. In lieu of such appreciation, the irrational student is left with little choice but to exhibit modest behavior.
7) Put in best efforts to handle all disciplinary issues personally and amicably so that they are nipped in the bud and do not have to be reported to the head.
8) Always maintain a calm, pleasant and confident demeanour which inspires the students to emulate the same.
In this way I would create a healthy atmosphere in the classroom.
