Educational implications or effects of Evaluation (approach) on different fields of education

The Evaluation Approach and its profound influence can be felt in the following areas of education –

Learning

  1. It emphasises on achievement levels of pupils and not just power of memory.
  2. It concentrates on higher levels of behaviour  such as application, analysis, synthesis, attitudes, skills, opinions, etc.
  3. It is a continuous process so ensures regular study habits and wide range of study to cover entire syllabus.

Teaching

  1. Limiting use of traditional lecture method and instead using a variety of methodologies. Eg. Learning by doing, collaborative learning, excursions, discussions, etc.
  2. Better planning and preparation on part of teachers.
  3. Techniques such as Diagnostic and Remedial teaching to improve students’ performances.

Syllabus

  1. Recasting of syllabus.
  2. Clear mention of objectives and scope at the start.
  3. Retention of only topics which fulfil such objectives.

Text-Books

  1. Better design and format.
  2. More filled with activities.
  3. Rests on an instructional objective-based approach.

Testing

  1. Shifting from only written examinations to other various techniques.
  2. Emphasis on objective assessment.
  3. Interpretation of results in a more valid and reliable way.
