What is netiquette

The education system is adapting technology very rapidly and internet is one of the main and major resource of education now a days. It is necessary to follow some rules when using internet to keep your value information safe and secure. To do so there are certain rules and guideline for using internet in effectively and with safety.

These  ideal manners of using internet and behaviour on internet are collectively know as net etiquette i.e Netiquette. Netiquette is a set of socially accepted and professionally practiced set of rules when using internet.

The definition of netiquette implies, among other things, that users must follow copyright laws and other prevailing regulations.

  1. The Internet world is sometimes deceptive. You cannot see person directly to verity the truth.
  2. To relay on unknown person may be wrong.
  3. In chatting majority people chat with nickname or even with pseudo name. Be care when you chat.
  4. Do not give your e-mail address or identity to unknown person.
  5. Ignore the vulgar e-mail.
  6. Use ignore button when vulgar messages are passed by someone while chatting.
  7. Do not disclose your confidential matter on e-mail.
  8. Do not tell your password.
  9. Change password of e-mail address regularly.

Netiquette at School

Cyberspace has the potential to be a tremendous resource for students and teachers at all levels.

The Internet was invented as a research tool, and it’s been used at universities, especially by graduate students and professors, almost since its inception.

Its use is now spreading downward to undergraduates, high school students, and even elementary schools.

And new uses pop up every day.

There’s a discussion group that functions as a support group for first-year teachers.

Other discussion groups allow teachers in the same discipline to exchange ideas and teaching methods.

College teachers encourage their students to do their research on the net.

Netiquette (Network Etiquettes): Rules of Behavior on the Internet .

The etiquette guidelines that govern behaviour when communicating on the Internet have become known as netiquette.

Netiquette covers not only rules of behaviour during discussions but also guidelines that reflect the unique electronic nature of the medium.

Netiquette usually is enforced by fellow users who are quick to point out infractions of netiquette rules.

  • Netiquettes is a word formed from two words namely Network Etiquettes. It means conventional rules for correct behaviour on the Internet. In case of email, chatting the netiquettes create proper impression during communication.
  • The conventional rules for communicating with others are as follows .
  • Write e-mail message in complete English.
  • Use regular English Style i.e. proper use of upper case and lower case.
  • Spell checks your message.
  • Be polite in your e-mail message.
  • Do not write in all CAPS.
  • Sign (write) your name.
  • Identify yourself: .
    • Begin messages with a salutation and end them with your name.
    • Use a signature (a footer with your identifying information) at the end of a message.
  • Include a subject line. Give a descriptive phrase in the subject line of the message header that tells the topic of the message (not just “Hi, there!”).
  • Avoid sarcasm. People who don’t know you may misinterpret its meaning.
  • Respect others’ privacy.
  • Acknowledge and return messages promptly.
  • Copy with caution. Don’t copy everyone you know on each message.
  • No spam.
  • Be concise. Keep messages concise—about one screen, as a rule of thumb.
  • Use appropriate language: .
    • Avoid coarse, rough, or rude language.
    • Observe good grammar and spelling.
  • Use appropriate emoticons (emotion icons) to help convey meaning.
  • Use appropriate intensifiers to help convey meaning.
    • Avoid “flaming” (online “screaming”) or sentences typed in all caps.
    • Use asterisks surrounding words to indicate italics used for emphasis (*at last*).
    • Use words in brackets, such as (grin), to show a state of mind.
    • Use common acronyms (e.g., LOL for “laugh out loud“).
