What is UART

by Yogi P - September 3, 2023

UART is a term that means Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter. It is a type of device used to allow computers and other devices to communicate with each other. UART devices are typically part of a computer’s motherboard, although they can also be found in other electronic components such as USB bridges.

How Does UART Work?

To put it simply, a UART enables one device to be connected to another device. When two devices are connected, the UART converts data sent on one end into a form that can be understood by the receiving device. This is done by interpreting the start and stop bits, encoding and decoding data with logic levels, and providing an interface for various communication protocols. UARTs also usually include circuitry for error detection.

What is the Full Form of UART?

The full form of UART is Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter. It is a type of device used for communication between two devices or components. UARTs allow computers and other electronic components to transmit and receive data at different speeds. The use of UARTs makes it easier for engineers and developers to communicate between components without needing to write complex code.
