The full form of TRP is Television Rating Point or Target Rating Point.
What is TRP?
TRP stands for “Television Rating Point.” Think of it like a score that tells us which TV shows are the most popular. The higher the TRP, the more people are watching that show. Advertisers like to know the TRP because it helps them decide where to put their ads. To figure out the TRP, some tools (like the “people meter”) are attached to a few TV sets in homes. This tool keeps track of what and when people are watching.
How is TRP Measured?
There are two main ways to measure TRP:
- Picture Matching Method: This way uses the “people meter” to check a small part of the picture that’s being watched on TV. After that, the info from different homes is gathered to calculate the TRP.
- Frequency Monitoring Technique: Here, the “people meter” notes down what show and when someone is watching it. This data is taken over a month to get an average TRP.
