Full Form of CPT

The Common Proficiency Test (CPT) is the first step in becoming a Chartered Accountant in India. It is an entry-level exam conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). The CPT is a mandatory examination for all candidates who wish to enroll in the Chartered Accountancy course.

To be eligible for the CPT, candidates must have passed the 12th class or equivalent examination from a recognized university. Commerce graduates are exempted from the CPT, and can directly enroll in the second level of the Chartered Accountancy course, the Intermediate Course on Professional Competence (IPCC).

The CPT is an objective-type exam consisting of 200 multiple-choice questions. The exam covers four subjects: Accounting, Mercantile Law, General Economics, and Quantitative Aptitude.

The CPT is held twice a year, in June and December. Candidates can register for the exam on the ICAI website.

Here are some tips for preparing for the CPT:

  • Start preparing early – The CPT syllabus is vast, so it is important to give yourself enough time to cover all of the material.
  • Use a good study guide – There are many CPT study guides available in the market and online.
  • Practice solving mock test papers – This will help you to get a feel for the exam format and to identify your areas of weakness.
  • Take breaks – It is important to take breaks while studying to avoid burnout.

If you are serious about becoming a Chartered Accountant, then the CPT is the first step on your journey. Start preparing today and give yourself the best chance of success.
