Full form of EEG
Electroencephalography (EEG) is a test that measures the electrical activity of the brain. Brain cells communicate with each other using electrical impulses, and EEG can detect these impulses and record them as a series of lines on a computer monitor.
EEG is a safe and painless procedure. During the test, small metal discs called electrodes are placed on the scalp. The electrodes are connected to a computer, which records the electrical activity of the brain.
EEG is used to diagnose and track a variety of brain conditions, including:
- Epilepsy
- Sleep disorders
- Brain tumors
- Head injuries
- Dementia
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Parkinson’s disease
EEG can also be used to monitor the brain during surgery and other medical procedures.
Why does the doctor suggest the individual take the EEG test?
A doctor may order an EEG test if you have symptoms such as:
- Seizures
- Loss of consciousness
- Memory problems
- Difficulty concentrating
- Changes in behavior
- Sleep problems
- Headaches
EEG can also be used to monitor the effectiveness of certain medications and treatments.
If you have any questions or concerns about the EEG test, be sure to talk to your doctor.
