What is PDF?
PDF stands for Portable Document Format. It is a file format developed by Adobe in the 1990s to allow people to view documents, including text formatting and images, regardless of the software, hardware, or operating system they are using.
In other words, it is a file format that is not dependent on any specific program, hardware, or operating system, and can be used to present and exchange information securely.
PDF files capture all of the elements of a printed document as an electronic image, which can be viewed, navigated, printed, or forwarded to others. PDF files are created using Adobe Acrobat, Acrobat Capture, or similar software. To view and use PDF files, Adobe Acrobat Reader is required.
When the reader is installed, it will automatically open whenever you try to open a PDF file. PDF files are especially useful for documents where you need to preserve the original layout and appearance, such as newspaper articles, document templates, and flyers.
Advantages of PDF:
- Mobility and portability: PDF files can be read anywhere, using only free software such as the Adobe Acrobat viewer.
- Preservation of original formatting: When you convert a document to PDF, all of the text, graphics, and images in the document are preserved, ensuring that the document will look the same on any device.
- Security: PDF files can be encrypted to protect them from unauthorized access.
- Interactivity: PDF files can include interactive elements such as forms, links, and buttons.
- Compression: PDF files can be compressed to reduce their file size, making them easier to transmit and share.
Overall, PDF is a versatile and powerful file format that offers a number of advantages for presenting and exchanging information.
