What is the full form of INR?

INR Full Form is Indian Rupee. It serves as the official currency of the Republic of India and is regulated and authorized by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The Rupee is divided into smaller units known as paise, with 1 Rupee equaling 100 paise.

The Reserve Bank of India Act of 1934 provides the legal framework for currency management in India, a responsibility primarily overseen by the RBI. In 2010, the symbol “₹” was adopted as the representation for INR, designed by Udaya Kumar. Although the lowest coin denomination in circulation is one rupee, the one Rupee note was discontinued in 2019.

Coins in various denominations such as 50 paise, 1 rupee, 2 rupees, 5 rupees, and 10 rupees are issued by the RBI in different metals. A common motif across these coins is the image of King Ashoka. Banknotes come in denominations of one, two, five, ten, twenty, fifty, hundred, two hundred, five hundred, and two thousand rupees. Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait adorns these notes, except for the one rupee note, which features an image of a rupee coin.
