What is the Full form of CAT?
The full form of CAT is the Common Admission Test.
What does CAT stands for?
CAT stands for Common Admission Test. It’s an online exam that IIMs (Indian Institutes of Management) use to pick students for their postgraduate programs. The CAT exam breaks down into three main sections:
- VARC: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
- DILR: Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
- QA: Quantitative Ability
Each section gets an hour, making the total exam time three hours.
CAT’s History at a Glance
- Up until 2009, students took CAT as a paper test.
- From 1 May 2009, CAT shifted to a computer-based format.
- Starting in the 2012-15 batch, IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) and IISc (Indian Institute of Science) began using CAT scores for their management programs, ditching the older JMET (Joint Management Entrance Test).
Who can take the CAT?
- Anyone with a bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks. However, for SC, ST, PWD, or DA categories, it’s 45%.
- The degree should be from an institution recognized by the central or state government in India or has approval under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.
- If you’re in the final year of your bachelor’s degree or waiting for your results, you can still apply.
What’s the CAT Exam Like?
- The CAT exam structure can change each year.
- As of CAT 2015, the exam usually consists of 34 questions each for VARC and QA, and 32 questions for DILR. But always check the current year’s pattern, as it might change!
