XHTML – Extensible Hypertext Markup Language

XHTML is a markup language that combines the features of HTML and XML. It is more strict than HTML, meaning that it has stricter syntax and coding rules. XHTML documents are well-formed and can be parsed using standard XML parsers.

Benefits of XHTML

  • XHTML code is cleaner and easier to maintain.
  • XHTML is more efficient and requires less bandwidth.
  • XHTML is more compatible with different devices and browsers.
  • XHTML is more extensible and can be used to create more complex web applications.

History of XHTML

XHTML was developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) in the late 1990s. It was intended to be a transitional language that would help web developers move from HTML to XML. However, XHTML never became as popular as HTML, and its development has since slowed.

Components of XHTML

XHTML documents are made up of three main components:

  • DOCTYPE: The DOCTYPE declaration specifies the version of XHTML that is being used.
  • Head: The head section contains information about the document, such as the title and meta tags.
  • Body: The body section contains the content of the web page, such as text, images, and links.

Conclusion

XHTML is a powerful markup language that offers a number of benefits over HTML. However, it is more complex to learn and use. If you are new to web development, I recommend starting with HTML. Once you have a good understanding of HTML, you can then learn about XHTML and decide if it is the right language for you.
