What is the Full Form of JEE?
Full form of JEE is the Joint Entrance Examination.
What Does JEE Stand For?
JEE stands for the Joint Entrance Examination, an annual national-level engineering entrance test conducted across India. It serves as a gateway for aspiring engineering students to secure a position in various engineering institutions based on their exam performance.
Types of JEE Examinations:
- JEE Main
- JEE Advanced
In the past, students took the AIEEE exam for entry into engineering colleges. It’s now been replaced by JEE Main. The IIT-JEE, on the other hand, transitioned to become JEE Advanced. Successful candidates in the JEE Main are eligible to attempt the JEE Advanced.
Eligibility Criteria:
For JEE Main:
- Candidates must have a minimum of 75% in Class 12 from any recognized board. Alternatively, they should rank within the top 20 percentile of their Class 12 board results.
- SC or ST candidates require a minimum of 65% in their Class 12 board exams.
For JEE Advanced:
- Candidates should rank under 2,50,000 in the JEE Main exam.
- Success in this exam provides a chance to enroll in IIT colleges for B.tech programs.
About JEE:
JEE Main acts as a qualifier for JEE Advanced and is a stepping stone to premier institutions like NITs and IITs. The JEE Main is conducted biannually. Within a specific academic year, a student’s attempt at the JEE Main is counted as one, irrespective of whether they take one or both exam sessions. The test is online.
The JEE Main spans three hours, testing students in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with 30 multiple-choice questions for each subject. Incorrect answers result in negative marking.
- Paper 1: For those seeking admission into BE and B.Tech programs.
- Paper 2: Aimed at B.Arch admissions.
- Paper 3: Tailored for B.Planning courses.
Candidates can appear for JEE Main for three consecutive years, but JEE Advanced allows only two consecutive attempts. The cut-off for JEE Main is set by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and varies by category: General, OBC, SC, ST, and PWD.
