The Boy Who Cried Wolf

Once upon a time, there was a shepherd boy who was bored while he was watching the sheep on the hillside. To amuse himself, he decided to play a trick on the villagers. He ran down the hill and shouted, “Wolf! Wolf! Help! There’s a wolf attacking the sheep!”

The villagers heard the boy’s cries and came running up the hill with their pitchforks and clubs. But when they arrived, they found that there was no wolf. The boy laughed and said, “I was just joking!

The villagers were angry at the boy for wasting their time. They warned him not to play such a trick again.

A few days later, the boy was bored again, so he decided to play the same trick on the villagers. He ran down the hill and shouted, “Wolf! Wolf! Help! There’s a wolf attacking the sheep!

Once again, the villagers came running up the hill to help. But when they arrived, they found that there was no wolf. The villagers were even more angry at the boy this time. They warned him that if he played the same trick again, they would not believe him.

A few days later, a wolf really did come to attack the sheep. The boy ran down the hill and shouted, “Wolf! Wolf! Help! There’s a wolf attacking the sheep!

But the villagers thought that he was playing another trick on them, so they ignored him. The wolf attacked the sheep and killed many of them.

The boy learned a valuable lesson that day: if you lie too often, people will stop believing you, even when you are telling the truth.

Moral of the story:

Do not lie, even as a joke. If you lie too often, people will stop believing you, even when you are telling the truth.
