Meaning of a Contract
A contract is a legally agreement between two or more parties which creates obligations which are enforceable by law. It is a fundamental requirement of commercial and personal relationships.
Characteristics of valid contract.
A valid contract must have the following characteristics:
- Certainty: The terms of the contract must be clear and definite.
- Possibility of performance: The terms must be capable of being performed.
- Legal formality: While most contracts can be oral or written, certain contracts may require specific formalities (e.g., contracts for the sale of immovable property).
- Mutuality: Both parties must have obligations under the contract.

Key elements of a valid contract are:
- Offer: There must be a proper offer by one party to another, which indicates a willingness to enter into a contract.
- Acceptance: There must be an unconditional acceptance of the offer and the terms of the offer.
- Consideration: There must be a valid consideration.
- Legal Capacity: Both parties involved must have the legal capacity to enter into the contract, like they must be of legal age and sound mind.
- Free Consent: The agreement must be without any influence, fraud, or misrepresentation of the facts.
- Lawful Object: The purpose of the contract must be legal.
- Possibility of Performance: The terms of the contract must be capable of being performed
